WAN was established with a strong belief that women working in broad collaborations and partnerships could have a greater impact on public policy and could implement the strategies needed to achieve gender equity.
The purpose of the network is to position women’s organizations as a significant partner to national, state, and local governments in addressing the needs of women and girls and to increase our ability to influence public policy.
While each organization in the network is autonomous and independent, each shares the values and aspirations of the coalitionas a whole.
WAN is continuously building a coalition of women’s voices, working with various local and statewide partner organizations and is made up of many diverse but primarily women’s organizations.

The mission of the Women's Action Network is to provide a collective voice to impact policies, laws and practices affecting women's lives.
Our primary objectives are to create a collective voice; to strengthen the effectiveness of our partner women’s organizations; and put our collective energies behind common goals, in order to significantly increase our impact on the welfare of women and girls in Santa Clara County.
We sustain our partnerships through open, ongoing communication and regular updates on legislation and public policy .
WAN was created in response to the expressed needs of local NPO leaders and grassroots activists at a meeting in 2001, who shared common goals and core values regarding the welfare of women and girls, and wanted to improve their effectiveness.
This partnership has grown to include 15 organizations and many individuals. |
